Labuda Doll

Church member, Anne Matthies Muzi introduced the Labuda Dolls, West African-styled rag dolls, to Friendship Baptist Church in 2011. She developed the project in the late 1980s to assist West African women needing work while in the Peace Corps. The children of Sierra Leone had only stick dolls. They began to make Rag dolls that represented the beautiful clothing that the women wore and sold them to the service organizations. The dolls have been sold in Aiken at special events as a fund raiser project for The Center for African American History, Art and Culture.
